BRDTC and Shelter Dogs
Under the guidance of Vickie Bruce, a loyal group of BRDTC members works with Frederick County Esther Boyd Animal Shelter dogs to train them to sit, down and stay (and sometimes more commands for the really bright ones). Our goal is to bring out the best that each dog has to offer to make him/her more adoptable.

Club members also are able to foster dogs who seem like they would benefit from being in a home rather than in the shelter. As volunteers we also help match dogs with potential adopters. As we get to know the dogs by working with them, we can often help when potential owners come into the shelter. We can help a family choose by explaining breed tendencies, exercise needs and how to introduce dogs to the home. Also our club helps by allowing foster dogs to take obedience classes for free, giving them one more leg up on the adoption ladder.

How to volunteer
You may become a volunteer by going in person to the shelter and signing up. You will be shown around and will talk briefly with the Shelter manager. If you would like to join the BRDTC group on weekends, please email Vickie to be added to the
